In-Home Pest Control: Weeds And Chemicals

Pest control is an important issue in this country. There is always a challenge of finding effective pest control that isn't too toxic to the environment. In the home, there is an additional challenge of finding methods that aren't dangerous to humans and pets. Several methods of pest control available on the market.

One of the common things a homeowner needs pest control for are insects. Insects are generally considered to be quite irritating to the homeowner. After all, who wants to see cockroaches running around their kitchens, or spider webs inside their homes? Almost every household uses some form of pest control or another to ensure a bug free house.

The method used against insects is called insecticide. Insecticides are typically a chemical means of pest control, but there are natural alternatives available. If there are too many insects for over the counter pest control chemicals, homeowners will typically resort to fumigation. These methods are quite effective, but should be used carefully, as they can be quite dangerous to humans and pets. Farmers also use insecticides as a method of pest control. A farmer's livelihood depends on the success of his crop, and any pest that attacks the crop also attacks the farmer's income. The quality of the crop can be affected severely if pest control methods aren't used to ensure the health of the crop. Unfortunately, insecticide as a method is a double-edged sword, it keeps the insects away, but it can also have harmful side effects on people as well as the environment.

Another reason for pest control can be found outdoors in the form of weeds. Weeds can destroy a garden or a crop with ease. No gardening enthusiast ever sets out to grow weeds, and no farmer can sell weeds at the market. These people use a method called herbicide. Herbicides are a fairly effective means of pest control, especially against the plants that cause allergies. The unfortunate side effect of using herbicides is that it only works for so long against the weeds; overuse can cause irreparable damage to the soil. Of course, the old-fashioned technique against weeds that isn't damaging is to pull them out by hand. This method of pest control is nothing but time consuming, and also isn't always effective–especially if the weeds have spores.

Pest control is an important issue because of its effects on the environment, people, and animals. There is a constant challenge to improve the methods, from using old-fashioned techniques, to using modern pest control chemicals. Whatever the choice, there is a method available to ensure a happy and pest free home.
